Orlando, FL — Restoring Integrity and Trust in Elections PAC (“RITE PAC”), an organization dedicated to protecting election integrity, secured a major legal victory when a Florida federal district court dismissed a lawsuit brought by progressive activist groups seeking to upend Florida’s voter registration verification procedures.
RITE PAC supported the intervention of the Republican Party of Florida, which entered the case to defend the integrity of the state’s voter registration system. The lawsuit attempted to challenge Florida’s longstanding and commonsense practice of verifying identifying information applicants provide when registering to vote by checking it against against government records to ensure accuracy and eligibility and prevent duplicate registrations.
“Florida’s registration safeguards are essential to ensuring that only those eligible are added to the voter rolls,” said RITE PAC President Justin Riemer. “This is just one of many of RITE’s ongoing initiatives to support robust registration verification procedures.”
The court found the plaintiffs’ complaint so deficient it constituted a “shotgun pleading,” failing to explain how any specific defendant violated the law. It also noted the plaintiffs’ failure to name 63 out of 67 county supervisors of elections, despite seeking statewide relief.
“This was an unserious lawsuit, but it targeted a very serious issue,” Riemer continued. “We’re proud to stand with the RPOF in defending Florida’s right to maintain secure and accurate voter rolls.”
RITE and RITE PAC continue to support litigation efforts around the country to protect clean voter rolls, including in Pennsylvania where RITE has a pending lawsuit against the state for its directive that restricts local election officials from performing the same checks that Florida was sued for here.
