RITE Helps to Secure Victory on Undated Ballots in Pennsylvania

Harrisburg, Pennsylvania – Restoring Integrity and Trust in Elections (“RITE”), a non-profit organization that supports litigation to ensure election security and integrity, today announced a significant victory against yet another attempt by liberal activists to subvert Pennsylvania’s law that requires mail-in ballots to be signed and dated.

The Supreme Court of Pennsylvania rebuked a lower court that tried to eliminate the dating requirement at the eleventh hour. This decision ensures that the dating requirement will be fully enforced throughout the Commonwealth in this year’s elections for President, Senate, and down throughout the ballot.

RITE is pleased that the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania adopted the arguments RITE submitted in its brief to block the lower courts’ reckless efforts to upend the Commonwealth’s elections.

“This is yet another damning loss for activists who want to take a sledgehammer to simple election security measures,” said Derek Lyons, President and CEO of RITE. “So-called ‘voting rights groups’ have had Pennsylvania’s simple dating requirement in their crosshairs for four years now. They have filed every lawsuit imaginable to invalidate it, with the same result each time: A loss. Today, the Pennsylvania Supreme Court delivered a victory for the rule of law and delivered a strong message to those trying to manipulate the courts to undermine election rules enacted into law by democratically elected legislatures. RITE is honored to play a role in ensuring elections are administered in accordance with the law so that the public can have confidence in their results.

Bobby Burchfield

Bobby R. Burchfield is a co-founder, with Karl Rove, of Restoring Integrity and Trust in Elections, Inc., and currently serves as RITE’s Chairman. Before retiring from the practice of law in March 2021, after serving as a partner in three international law firms, Bobby was a trial and appellate  lawyer who tried cases before judges and juries and argued appeals throughout the United States. His cases addressed a broad  range of subjects  including antitrust, commercial  disputes, constitutional law,  election law, and class action issues. Bobby argued two important First Amendment cases

in the Supreme Court of the United States (McConnell v. FEC and McCutcheon v. FEC), as well as two dozen appeals in the lower courts. Over a 40-year career, Bobby never lost a jury trial. Among other recognitions, he was listed for many years in Best Lawyers in America, and Chambers Partners rated Bobby highly for Commercial Litigation and for Election Law.
