U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Florida
A left-wing advocacy group is challenging Florida’s commonsense voter registration safeguards in federal court. At issue is the state’s requirement—consistent with federal law—that applicants provide personal identification (such as a driver license number or the last four digits of a Social Security number) that can be matched to official records before being added to the voter rolls.
Plaintiffs argue that Florida’s so-called “exact match” process disenfranchises voters and should be struck down. However, these identification checks are facially neutral, required by the Help America Vote Act (HAVA), and designed to ensure that only eligible voters are registered. The process additionally includes multiple safeguards, such as a cure period and the ability to cast provisional ballots. RITE PAC joined the case to defend Florida’s law from attack.
On September 16, 2025, the court dismissed the case.
