Circuit Court for the City of Richmond
The Republican National Committee (RNC) and RITE PAC are challenging a state law that allows individuals who have never lived in Virginia—or anywhere in the United States—to vote in Virginia elections, simply because one of their parents is registered in the state.
Virginia’s Constitution limits the franchise to U.S. citizens who have actually resided in the Commonwealth. Allowing individuals to vote based solely on a parent’s prior registration sidesteps that requirement and undermines bona fide residency requirements. RITE PAC is asking the court to invalidate this unlawful scheme and ensure that Virginia elections are determined by those who have lived in the state.
