(Seattle, WA – July 22, 2025) – Restoring Integrity and Trust in Elections PAC (RITE PAC) has filed an amicus brief in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Washington defending the legality of requiring documentary proof of U.S. citizenship in connection with federal voter registration forms.
The brief, submitted alongside the Republican Party of Arizona, defends Executive Order 14248, “Preserving and Protecting the Integrity of American Elections.” It argues that the National Voter Registration Act (NVRA) empowers the Election Assistance Commission to request documentation, such as proof of citizenship, determined necessary to verify eligibility of the applicant. The Supreme Court and lower federal courts have already affirmed this authority.
The brief also defends a provision of the Executive Order which directs federal voter registration agencies to assess citizenship status before offering registration forms. RITE PAC argues that this directive is consistent with the NVRA’s purpose of confining voter registration opportunities to U.S. citizens, and reinforces existing federal laws prohibiting non-citizen voting and registration.
“This is not a radical proposal. Only U.S. citizens are allowed to vote in federal elections,” said RITE PAC President Justin Riemer. “Before someone registers to vote, officials should be able to confirm they’re eligible. That’s what the law provides, and our brief defends that.”
RITE PAC will continue fighting for measures designed to prevent non-citizen registration and protect the integrity of the election system.
