Court of Common Pleas of Montgomery County, Pennsylvania
Just weeks before the election, on October 5, 2024, Montgomery County introduced a “mobile voter services van.” Functioning as an election office on wheels, this van allowed people to register and request and return absentee ballots wherever officials decided to park it that day. RITE challenged this action, stating that Pennsylvania law requires counties announce in advance where and when voter registration efforts will take place. Allowing election officials to move the location at will, with no set schedule, undermines transparency and fairness.
On October 30, 2024, the trial court ruled that the county must provide the public with 24-hour notice of its location. This ruling is a step toward restoring election integrity and ensuring that election officials follow the law rather than making it up as they go.
